On the Irish Loop, we strive to maintain the safety of our communities for people to live, work and play. That is why throughout the region you will find a variety of private and public organizations ready to provide emergency services to residents in key areas such as:
Policing
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), or "The Mounties", is one of the most recognized police forces in the world. They have two detachments in the Irish Loop, one in Trepassey and one in Ferryland, and through these two offices they provide valuable services such as emergency response, law enforcement, crime prevention and traffic safety to the entire Irish Loop region.

Fire Protection
Communities in the Irish Loop rely on an extensive network of trained volunteer firefighters to respond to fire emergencies. All towns are either equipped with their own fire trucks and firefighting equipment, or have made arrangements with neighboring communities to provide emergency fire protection services.
Medical Services
Emergency medical services in the Irish Loop are coordinated by the Eastern Regional Health Authority. Within the region there are four health care facilities that provide doctor and nursing care however, in cases where hospital emergency room services are needed, residents are transported by ambulance to hospitals in St. John's.

A note on 911 emergency calls:
The province of Newfoundland and Labrador is currently implementing a plan to provide province-wide 911 service by the end of 2014. Currently basic 911 service via landline telephone is only available in the communities of Bay Bulls, Witless Bay, Tors Cove and Burnt Cove-St Michaels-Bauline East, however basic 911 service can be accessed from cell phones anywhere there is a signal.
