Located approximately halfway between the towns of Portugal Cove South and Trepassey is Biscay Bay, a community situated at the mouth of the Biscay Bay River and historically known for its rich salmon resources.

Both the community and the bay in which it is located are believed to have been named by French and Basque fishermen after the Bay of Biscay (located between northern Spain and the west coast of France). While it's believed that migratory fishermen visited the area as early as the 16th century, it was not until the early 1800s that settlers, attracted by the commercial potential of the salmon resources in the area, established permanent homes here.

While the inshore and the salmon fishery have traditionally been the major employers in Biscay Bay, many people now commute to work in other centers. While small in size, Biscay Bay has a big heart and is the perfect setting to enjoy a balanced lifestyle: affordable housing and land, a friendly place to raise a family, and endless ways to experience the outdoors.
